For many users in Russia, P2P remains one of the primary ways to buy and sell cryptocurrency. However, it is also a frequent source of fraudulent schemes.

The main risks of P2P transactions are:

  • counterfeit bank checks confirming a non-existent transfer;
  • use of other people's or stolen bank cards by fraudsters;
  • attempts to cancel a payment after receiving cryptocurrency;
  • Involving the user in chains of drops and illegal withdrawals of funds.
A separate issue concerns the origin of funds. Money may come from victims of phone scams, droppers, or participants in illegal schemes. As a result, even a bona fide participant in a transaction risks having their bank account blocked and undergoing additional verification by the bank. Therefore, when conducting P2P exchanges, it's important not only to check the counterparty's reputation but also to avoid third-party transfers, splitting the amount, or other non-standard transaction terms.
