Analysts reported that the country's internet service providers were shut down in stages, and telephone service was also intermittent. This is the country's government's way of combating immorality.

In mid-September, authorities shut down fiber-optic internet in northern and eastern provinces, including Balkh, Baghlan, Badakhshan, Kunduz, Nangarhar, and Takhar.
