Fraudsters are distributing malicious APKs in Telegram from fake International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) accounts. Judging by the text of the messages and file names, the mailing is aimed at families of ICRC participants.
The recipient is asked to submit an application to search for a missing serviceman. The names of the malicious attachments vary : list of prisoners of war.apk, Red Cross application.apk, photo albums of prisoners.apk, etc.
The ICRC reminds that downloading files sent by strangers is dangerous: this can lead to hacking of social media profiles, banking applications, as well as leakage of personal data. The only Russian-language account of the international organization in Telegram is @mkkk_ru.
Mailings of Android malware in the popular messenger are not uncommon. Fraudsters using social engineering can pass off such malware as photos , videos , app mods, or games .
The main thing in such cases is not to give in to the first impulse and remain vigilant. Otherwise, you can lose control not only over your smartphone, but also over your bank accounts .
