Emirates one of the world’s largest airlines has temporarily suspended all flights.
In a series of posts on Twitter the U.A.E. carrier said “Today we made the decision to temporarily suspend all passenger flights. SkyCargo operations will continue. This painful but pragmatic move will help Emirates Group preserve business viability and secure jobs worldwide, avoiding cuts.”
The move makes Emirates the largest airline to completely ground its fleet. The U.A.E. based carrier flies the most passenger kilometres each year and has a fleet of 277 aircraft.
With 113 Airbus A380 superjumbos and over 150 Boeing 777 aircraft in the Emirates fleet, Dubai International airport is set to become the world’s largest aircraft car parks, with Al Maktoum International airport also likely being utilised.
Emirates subsequently posted; “We will continue to watch the situation closely, and will reinstate our passenger services, as soon as feasible. These are unprecedented times for the airline & travel industry,
but we will get through it with your support. “
