At WWDC 2026, Apple engineers unveiled a new Apple Intelligence feature designed to help users avoid weak and compromised passwords. iOS 27 will introduce an "agent-based" password manager that will not only warn about threats but also automatically change insecure passwords to stronger ones without user intervention.

Safari and the Passwords app can currently detect weak, reused, or compromised credentials. For example, when registering a new account, the system will warn the user about a weak password and offer to generate a stronger one.

However, until now, this feature has only provided a notification, with the user being asked to fix the problem manually. Now, this process is planned to be automated.

Apple announced that Passwords and Safari will support so-called agent actions. In other words, AI will be able to independently perform certain tasks on the user's behalf. In the case of passwords, this means automatically changing credentials for supported services.

If the system detects a weak or compromised password, it can automatically change it to a stronger one, saving the new data in the password manager.

Because the company places special emphasis on privacy, Apple emphasizes that the new functionality is based on the next generation of Foundation Models—the company's own models used in the Apple Intelligence ecosystem. The company also confirmed that the Foundation Models were created using Google technology. According to the developers, models from the Gemini family were used to train and refine Apple's own models.

Apple representatives explain that most operations are performed directly on the user's device. If a feature requires cloud resources, requests are processed through the Private Cloud Compute infrastructure.

This approach, they claim, ensures that personal data is not stored on the company's servers and remains inaccessible to both Apple and third parties.

The updated password manager and other new Apple Intelligence features are scheduled to launch in the second half of 2026, along with the release of iOS 27.
