Apple conducted its largest software update cycle in its history, patching over 260 vulnerabilities in its operating systems and proprietary services.
Cupertino emphasized that none of the discovered vulnerabilities had been exploited in real-world attacks at the time of release.
In the new iOS and iPadOS, developers patched 122 vulnerabilities. Among the most dangerous were a bug in the Background Assets component that allowed apps to access sensitive data and a flaw that allowed local privilege escalation to root. Meanwhile, desktop macOS received fixes for 204 vulnerabilities.
Notably, AI tools actively participated in vulnerability detection for the first time. In mobile OSes, AI helped detect two issues—a vulnerability in AVE video decoders and a data type error in the Foundation framework, which could cause denial of service.
In desktop OSes, AI was used to identify eight more vulnerabilities. Teams such as Anthropic Research and the Nvidia AI Red Team participated in the search.
