A US federal court sentenced Rui-Xiang Lin, the founder of the darknet marketplace Incognito Market, to 30 years in prison and ordered him to forfeit over $105 million in profits from the platform.
The sentence follows a criminal case in which Lin pleaded guilty in late 2024. The online platform shut down in the spring of 2024 following an investigation by US authorities. Before Incognito Market
closure, prosecutors allege that Lin embezzled some of its users' funds and attempted to pressure its participants by threatening to disclose their transaction histories and cryptocurrency addresses.
After serving his prison sentence, he will also be subject to supervised release for five years.
