The victim of the crime was the executive director of the consulting company Transform Group.
Michael Terpin, founder and CEO of Transform Group, a consulting firm, sued Ellis Pinksy, according to which a teenager, along with other attackers, hacked his phone and stole money in 2018.
According to Terpin, the teenager, together with accomplices, identified people with large cryptocurrency assets and hacked their phones, bribing or deceiving employees of wireless operators. Then the criminals intercepted authentication messages, gained access to confidential information and stole money from the cryptocurrency accounts of the victims.
Pinski allegedly boasted to his friends that since the age of 13 he was able to steal cryptocurrency worth more than $ 100 million and transferred hundreds of thousands of dollars to the cash that was stored in his bedroom. As soon as it became known that Terpin was suing Pinsky, the young man got scared and sent cryptocurrency, cash and watches totaling $ 2 million directly to Terpin, admitting his guilt. However, this act did not soften the intentions of the victim and the businessman decided to bring the matter to an end.
According to Terpin, Nicholas Truglia, who along with Joel Ortiz was arrested last year for SIM swapping, helped the attacker in the theft .
Terpin filed a lawsuit in a court in New York demanding to recover $ 71 million from the offender in accordance with federal law, which allows for compensation of damage in three times.
