A 44-year-old Poltava resident is suspected of unauthorized interference with the information system of a utility company. "Hacker" circumvented the degree of protection of "Poltavodokanal" using malicious software.
The illegal activity of the man was stopped by the employees of the department for countering cybercrime in the Poltava region together with the investigators of the Poltava police department and the security service of Ukraine in the Poltava region.
- A man, using malicious software, hacked the personal accounts of Poltavavodokanal customers and, using their personal data, made changes to the indicators of accounting for water consumed. During the searches authorized by the court at the address of the person’s residence, the investigators seized a Lenovo laptop, USB and SD drives, a USB modem, SIM cards from mobile operators and other evidence confirming the collection and storage of personal data of residents of Poltava, the police said.
Information on this fact was entered into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under Part 1 of Art. 361 (Unauthorized interference with the operation of electronic computers, computer networks) and part 1 of article 182 (Violation of privacy) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The issue of informing a person of suspicion and choosing a preventive measure is being resolved.
In the case of proof of guilt of the husband, he faces a fine or restriction of liberty for a period of two and five years. Investigative actions are ongoing.
