What is IVPN?
IVPN is a VPN provider founded in 2009 and registered in Gibraltar. It is one of the few providers that has undergone an independent audit and publicly publishes the results. It positions itself as a privacy tool, not a means of bypassing blocking.

Privacy upon registration
No email address is required upon registration—your account is simply an ID number. It doesn't require a name, address, or any personal information. Payment is accepted via cash by mail, Monero, Bitcoin, PayPal, or cards. For maximum anonymity, use Monero or cash.

WireGuard Protocols
– the primary recommended protocol. Fast, modern cryptography, minimal code base.
OpenVPN – for compatibility with older devices or networks where WireGuard is blocked.
Obfsproxy – traffic obfuscation to bypass VPN blocks.

AntiTracker's anti-tracking features
include built-in ad and tracker blocking at the DNS level. Two modes: standard and hardcore, which completely blocks Google and Facebook domains.

Multi-hop
traffic passes through two VPN servers in different countries. The first server sees your real IP but doesn't know where you're going. The second server sees where you're going but doesn't know your real IP. Even if one server is compromised, the connection isn't restored.

Port forwarding:
IVPN removed port forwarding in 2023—a deliberate decision to prevent abuse. While this is a disadvantage for torrenting, it's a plus for privacy.

Cure53 audited
IVPN apps, and the results were published publicly on their website. This is a standard that many VPN providers avoid.

Applications:

Clients are available for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android. The code is open source, so you can test the app's functionality. A kill switch is built into all platforms. A system-level firewall-based kill switch is more reliable than a software-based one.

Gibraltar is

a British Overseas Territory. It is not directly part of the Five Eyes, Nine Eyes, or Fourteen Eyes alliances. However, Gibraltar has close ties to the United Kingdom, which must be taken into account in the threat model.

Who is IVPN best for?

For those who value maximum privacy during registration and payment. Multi-hop for an additional layer of protection. AntiTracker Hardcore for those who want to completely block Google and Facebook from their traffic.

Cons:
More expensive than Mullvad. Fewer servers. No DAITA. Gibraltar jurisdiction is not ideal for all threat models.
