British low-cost airline EasyJet has been the victim of a cyber attack. Criminals gained access to emails and flight information of about 9 million customers of the company, as well as information about credit cards of more than 2 thousand of them.

“There is no evidence that any confidential information was used for unlawful purposes. We communicate with approximately 9 million customers whose data has been accessed to advise them to take protection measures to minimize the potential risk of phishing attacks, ”the company said.

According to company representatives, the specialists immediately took the necessary measures as soon as a “high-tech cyber attack” was discovered. Company management reported the incident to the National Cybersecurity Center and the Office of the Commissioner for Information UK (ICO), which deals with the protection of personal data.

At the end of March this year, EasyJet completely stopped flights due to the coronavirus pandemic. Airplanes performed rescue flights to evacuate the British who found themselves abroad.
