Burkov pleaded guilty to two counts as part of a deal with a

court. A court in the United States sentenced Russian hacker Alexei Burkov to nine years in prison for cybercrime. The state prosecution demanded 15 years in prison.

Burkova was detained in Israel in 2015, and in 2019 he was extradited by the United States. At the request of the mother of an Israeli citizen, Naama Issahar, who was sentenced in Russia to 7.5 years in a penal colony in the smuggling case, the process of extradition of Burkov to the US authorities was suspended. Then mother Issakhar withdrew the petition, saying that her daughter “would not become a tool for the Russian hacker and the people who stand behind him.”
Burkov pleaded guilty to two charges under the deal with the investigation - the theft of personal data and money laundering. Washington accused him of administering a site that sold bank card numbers. Burkov received six years less than the prosecution requested. If the court ruled him good behavior, Burkov will be able to leave in about three years.
The judge ruled that Burkov serve his sentence in the District of Columbia district of Washington, the Associated Press writes. This decision was made to make it easier for him to communicate with his lawyer, which may be necessary "for reasons that I do not consider it necessary to explain," the agency reports the judge.

Burkov’s lawyer Gregory Stambo, who asked his client to serve time in this area, refused to comment on whether Burkov could be part of the prisoner exchange between Russia and the United States, the agency writes.

Recall that a Russian was detained in Israel in 2015 at the request of the US prosecutor’s office and was extradited to the United States at the end of last year . The Russian was facing a term of up to 80 years.
