Security researchers at Avast have warned of rogue applications on the Google Play store to modify Minecraft that charge users.

Fraudsters distribute so-called fleeceware programs in the store. The malware offers users a free trial for several days before automatically signing up for a subscription. Attackers expect the victim to forget about the installed application and its short trial version, or not notice the real cost of the subscription. The most expensive representatives of fleeceware wrote off victims up to $ 120.

In total, 7 fleeceware applications were found offering wallpapers, skins, character and map mods for Minecraft. Users typically gave apps no more than one or two stars, complaining about subscription costs, lots of ads, and functional glitches. However, five of the seven apps have been downloaded over a million times.

The problem is also that it is not enough to simply uninstall applications. The user needs to manually cancel the subscription.
