Attackers unauthorizedly interfered with the work of servers and state registries, distorted information, developed and distributed malicious software.
This was reported by the press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
The cyber police, together with the investigative divisions of the National Police, under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor's office, documented the illegal activities of 14 persons involved in a series of cyberspace crimes.
For example, in Volyn, the police exposed an attacker for creating malicious software that encrypted user data. After the infection of computer equipment, users received a message about the need to pay a ransom. The man demanded from $ 600 to $ 1,000 for data recovery. The victims of the hacker were both government agencies and ordinary users. In addition, in Nikolayevshchina, the cyber police stopped the illegal activities of persons who, with the help of viruses, stole personal data of citizens. Later, they embezzled money from bank accounts and electronic wallets of users. In both regions, the exposure took place in the framework of international cooperation with Austrian law enforcement agencies.
In the Lviv region, the cyber police identified the location of the server from which the malicious software was distributed. His role was to take control of third-party foreign Internet servers. The hijacking was carried out by brute-force passwords and made it possible for attackers to obtain confidential information that was stored on servers. Also, three residents of Zaporozhye have created malicious software for illegal interference in the accounts of foreign citizens. Further, the cybercriminals in the messenger sold databases containing usernames and passwords. Similar offenses were also disclosed in Dnipropetrovsk, Zhitomir, Vinnitsa, Poltava and Odessa regions.
In general, in different regions of Ukraine, law enforcement officers conducted 20 searches. According to the results, computer equipment, mobile phones, bank cards, flash drives, and draft records were seized.
On the facts of offenses in the field of using electronic computers (computers), systems and computer networks and telecommunication networks, proceedings have been opened under Art. 361, art. 361-1, and under Art. 361-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The suspicion has already been announced to two defendants. Pre-trial investigations are ongoing.
