The open-source Brave browser, designed to protect user privacy by blocking ads and tracking trackers, has been found to be using referral links.

Using referral links, sites can determine which of the participants in their affiliate programs (referrals) attracted a user to the site. The parameter of the referral link along with the request is sent to the server, where it is recognized with the help of a script and allows you to determine the referral. If the user performs an action, the referral will receive a reward.

First the problem reportedTwitter user under the pseudonym Cryptonator1337. As the user found, if you enter “binance [.] Us” in the address bar, it will be redirected to “binance [.] Us / en? Ref = 35089877. The fact is that recently Brave developers have entered into a partnership with the cryptocurrency exchange Binance, and its head Chanpen Zhao expressed support for the browser on his page on Twitter.

Following the publication of Cryptonator1337 Managing Director JRR crypto Dimitar Dinev has revealed even more referral links. After analyzing the Brave page on GitHub, Dinev discovered referral links on Ledger sites, Trezor and Coinbase.

Chapter Brave Brendan Eyh (Brendan Eich) responded to allegations towards the browser and admitteda problem. According to him, Brave redirected users by mistake. The problem has now been fixed, and the entered domain names will no longer be reviewed, Eich promised.
