The Frolovskaya Interdistrict Prosecutor's Office of the Volgograd Region confirmed the criminal charges against a 20-year-old local resident.
According to the investigation, the accused received information about the logins and passwords of a number of users of one of the social networks. Using the available data, he blocked access to the pages of two users - residents of the Voronezh and Samara regions.
Having found photographs of an intimate nature in hidden files, the young man began to blackmail users: he offered them for money not to distribute the images and resume access to the pages. When the money was transferred, the defendant resumed users' access to the social network, said Oksana Cheredinina, senior assistant to the Volgograd region prosecutor for interaction with the media.
The investigation of the criminal case was carried out by the Investigation Department in the Frolovsky District of the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia in the Volgograd Region. The young man fully admitted his guilt and even compensated the victims. However, according to the law, he faces up to 4 years in prison. The materials of the case were transferred to the Frolovskiy city court.
