Over the past week, Roskomnadzor has sent 47 requests to Google to remove applications from the Russian Google Play. All of the specified applications provide access to VPN, and some of them use Cloudflare infrastructure. The publication "Rusbase" reported

on the significant activity of the Russian regulator with reference to the Lumen Database, which accumulates information on requests to remove content from online services. Roskomnadzor demands the removal of 47 VPN applications from Google Play, including the official client 1.1.1.1 + WARP from Cloudflare, as well as a number of other services using its infrastructure. According to "Rusbase", this is the largest wave of such requests in the past six months. The reason for submitting the requests was that the specified applications "contain prohibited information on the methods and techniques of providing access to information resources and (or) information and telecommunications networks, access to which is restricted on the territory of the Russian Federation." Back in the fall of 2024, Roskomnadzor strongly recommended stopping using Cloudflare due to the introduction of the TLS ECH function, which allows bypassing blocking. Since 2022, Russia has taken second place in the world in terms of traffic volume passing through VPN services. At the same time, the services that made it into the top five by number of downloads were among those that Roskomnadzor now requires to be removed. @ Anti-Malware
